According to the police, about fifty rioters were involved in the destruction of the partly vacant town hall on Monday night. Windows were smashed and a fence was destroyed.
Last week, several violent protests took place in Loosdrecht against the arrival of asylum reception facilities.
‘Boundary crossed’
Heerma emphasizes that everyone has the right to express his or her opinion, but that violence and intimidation are not acceptable.
“Doing damage, threatening or intimidating is never the right way to go. This crosses a clear line and puts pressure on democracy.”
He calls for continuing to express differences of opinion in a respectful and peaceful manner.
