Despite the ban on music on the streets, plenty of parties were held in Amsterdam’s Jordaan and the Nine Streets where music was played. Many of those parties could continue without any problems, although the police intervened on Reestraat, for example.
It was still questionable beforehand whether the street parties could continue, because the municipality wrote on the website:
AT5 was told by several city center residents that it still happened a lot. “I have walked through the Jordaan and on every corner there were speakers from the windows or illegal parties,” said one of them. AT5 also came across those parties itself.
Those present were aware of no harm. “I didn’t actually know that. I didn’t notice that.” Another understood that it could be annoying for local residents, but: “We can still have a conversation. At a festival I get even more upset, this is nice and quiet.”
It became so busy in the Reestraat that passers-by were crushed. Agents and enforcers therefore came to a party and asked the DJ to stop.
Not everyone was happy with that. “Good thing they ruined the vibes, that’s important, that’s very good,” said one partygoer cynically.
After the party stopped, it quickly became quieter in the street.
