Olivia Rodrigo made a surprise appearance at Pete’s Candy Store in New York City on Sunday evening. There she sang her current single “Drop Dead”. The pop singer took to the club’s small stage during the weekly open mic evening.
As can be seen in the short clip currently making the rounds online, Rodrigo was only accompanied by a female guitarist.
Rodrigo released “Drop Dead” earlier this month along with a music video filmed at the Palace of Versailles in France. The song is the lead single from her highly anticipated album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
Rodrigo about the song
“I love this song so much!!!,” Rodrigo wrote on Instagram. “It’s the first chapter in the story of ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love’. And it makes me so happy I want to jump around, roll down the windows and snog!”
“You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” which Rodrigo fans already abbreviate as “GSIL,” will be released June 12 via Geffen Records. It is her third album, following “Guts” (2023) and her acclaimed debut “Sour” (2021). “No matter how hard I try to write love songs, they always come out with a touch of melancholy,” Rodrigo said upon announcing the new album. “I’m so proud of this album and can’t wait for you to hear it.”
Rodrigo has not yet announced tour dates for “GSIL”. The album follows their monumental Guts World Tour, which ended in August 2025 – the double album “Live at Glastonbury” documented their impressive year on the festival circuit. On May 2nd, she will take on two roles on “Saturday Night Live.”
