Disappointed with the defeat in Cagliari Raffaele Palladino: “We conceded a goal in the locker room, because starting like that immediately cuts you short. We weren’t able to recover our mental energy after the defeat in the Italian Cup, because after 30 seconds we went behind. I’m sorry because I was hoping that this team would be able to turn the corner after what had happened and instead we didn’t manage to do so. We apologize to the fans, we feel sorry for them: we wanted to keep the hope of going to Europe alive, we didn’t manage to do so and that leaves a lot of regret.”
On the difficulties experienced: “We were very dirty in the first 30 minutes, they took advantage of the opportunities we gave them. Then there was an excellent reaction and we put the situation back on level terms. It’s a shame that we conceded a goal in the second half after coming back like that in the second half: a silly episode, the ball was legible. They then broke up the match, they were good despite what we created with Krstovic and Scamacca: Caprile was the best on the pitch in the final.”
On the goals of this season finale: “We took a good defeat against Lazio: I hoped we could clear everything up, I tried to motivate the boys in these 4-5 days, but we didn’t manage to win. I know that the team won’t give up in these last matches, starting from the next match against Genoa. My future? I said it the other day: when I arrived we were thirteenth and we made an important climb, a great recovery. We asked a lot of the boys, a lot of energy was spent: when you’re there when you chase you can never afford to make mistakes, and every time you lose it seems like the world collapses on you and you take a beating. These guys have taken a lot of blows, especially at the beginning of the year. As I’ve already said, I’m happy with Atalanta, I’m not tied to the contract or the money. I’m very ambitious and I try to do my best for this team and this club.”
On the two strikers Krstovic-Scamacca: “It’s difficult to focus on individual players today, it’s an understatement. It’s a solution that could have been there based on how the game went, in certain matches it fits. Today there were individual duels to be played up front and we chose the double striker: in certain matches it’s good to do so. Both of them did well up front, we had to be better and more cynical in the final conclusion”
