Names at the end of broadcasts, in announcements, in thanks: you know them but you don’t know who they are, what they do and why without them the sports story would be different
They are mostly invisible, faceless and voiceless, free from the back-door popularity that affects so many of their world. They are names at the end of the show, one line and little more. They are remembered in the acknowledgments and in some interviews with professionals. Their profile is rebuilt as when they leave, abandoning work for retirement or this life for another. Thus Nazareno Balani, director (he covered 24 years of the Olympics, from Barcelona 1992 to Rio de Janeiro 2016, he oversaw hundreds and hundreds of football matches, many Tours of Italy), a long-time professional who, in his own way, harks back to the golden age of Rai. Directors, production managers, set designers, authors, inventors of epochal programs. They thought about/framed/developed the sport on the scene.
