The accident happened on Sunday around a quarter to three, just before the Island Bridge. The ambulance had a patient on board and drove from the polder in the direction of Kampen. The ambulance made a ‘prior 1’ trip. This means that it may also drive with optical and audio signals.
The ambulance collided with a trailer on the N50. The ambulance was hit on the side, Rijkswaterstaat reported. The trailer came to a stop further down the road. It was unclear how other vehicles became involved, and exactly how many there were.
A specialist police team was called to investigate.
Patient in other ambulance
According to the police, three people were checked by their colleagues from another ambulance. The patient has been transferred to other ambulance staff. Nothing is known about his or her condition.
The police are still investigating the circumstances of the collision. Due to the accident and its aftermath, the N50 was closed in both directions for a long time on Sunday.
