A detached house from 1875 on Loeffstraat in Waalwijk is for sale. Judith and her husband Gerben fell in love with the characteristic house years ago. “When you walk in, you immediately think: wow.”
For Judith, the feeling was immediately good when she saw the house for the first time. The combination of old and new especially appealed to her. “You have the cozy atmosphere of the past, with beams on the ceiling. It used to be the house of the housekeeper of number four.”
That atmosphere has also been restored to the newer part of the house. According to her, it does not feel as if the house consists of two separate parts. Everything is coordinated.
Surprise behind the gate
What surprises visitors most, according to Judith, is not directly at the front. “As usual in Brabant, you come from the back. As soon as people step through our gate, they say: gosh, is this still behind it? You don’t expect that from the front.”

The contrast is also great inside. “At the front you think: it is an old building. But on the inside it is just neat and sleek. You can get right in.” The house has a living area of 218 square meters, five bedrooms and two bathrooms and has energy label C. In the garden there is also a multifunctional outbuilding, which is suitable as an office, guesthouse or informal care home.
Many possibilities
According to Judith, the house is suitable for different types of residents. “It is ideal for people with a few children. Older children may also be able to live independently in the building in the garden.”
But other types of housing are also conceivable, such as a kangaroo house, for example. “Or someone with their own company who wants a home office. There are many options. Thanks to the layout including two living rooms, there is also room to retreat.”
Still a new step
Now that the children are leaving home, their housing needs are changing. That is why Judith and Gerben decided to sell the house through Remco Olden Lommers Makelaars. The asking price is 745,000 euros. “At a certain point, the two of you still live there. If we can buy a smaller house and maybe a camper, we can go out more often.”
But saying goodbye is not easy for her. “The atmosphere of the building is just good. When you step inside, you really think: oh yes, wow. The space and the cozy places make the house special. There are nice corners everywhere where you can sit.”
