Gilles Honoré and his four fellow running enthusiasts are very familiar with running marathons. “We have already run marathons both at home and abroad, but not yet here in Kortrijk. Kortrijk is a beautiful running city and we thought it deserved its own marathon. So it started with a crazy idea: ‘Couldn’t we organize that ourselves?'”
Until 2007, Kortrijk was the starting point of the Guldenspoormarathon for many years. And the winner of that last edition, Carline Deseyn, was at the start again 19 years later for her 42nd marathon: “I am very happy that I can still be at the start after all these years. It gives me a special feeling today.”
After 2 hours and 20 minutes, Kortrijkzaan Matthijs Casteele emerged as the winner. “It’s emotional. I’m just very satisfied that I can win my first marathon with such an atmosphere. That will be one that will stay with me forever,” said Casteele.
