National soccer player Leroy Sané and Galatasaray Istanbul won the city derby against Fenerbahce and took a big step towards the championship. The leaders prevailed 3-0 (1-0) on Sunday evening.
With three games still to play, Galatasaray is now seven points ahead of its big rivals, and the 26th championship title in the club’s history and the fourth in a row awaits.
Galatasaray started with Sané in the first eleven, Ilkay Gündogan initially sat on the bench. Fenerbahce missed a great chance to take the lead early on, Talisca failed with a penalty kick (13th).
Shortly before the break, star striker Victor Osimhen (40th) made it 1-0. Galatasaray celebrated again in the second half, Lucas Torreira scored after an assist from Sané – but the goalscorer was offside (57th).
A few minutes later there was the next penalty after a foul by Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde on Yunus Akgün. But before this could be carried out, guest keeper Ederson was sent off with a yellow-red card – because he refused to stand on the line despite repeated requests from the referee (62nd).
After the great excitement, Baris Yilmaz finally converted to make it 2-0 (67th). In the final phase, Gündogan came on as a substitute (80′), shortly afterwards Torreira increased (83′).
