Handball Bundesliga team TSV Hannover-Burgdorf scored a point in the home game against TBV Lemgo Lippe on Sunday. After the 30:30 (14:15) the Lower Saxony are still in tenth place in the table.
Given that there is no upward movement in the Bundesliga and there is no threat from below, Lower Saxony’s focus has long been on the European League. On Wednesday (8:45 p.m., in the live center at NDR.de) the quarter-final first leg will be about qualifying for the Final Four in Hamburg on the last weekend in May. Winning the second most important European competition could potentially entitle you to take part in the Champions League next season.
TSV professionals despair of the outstanding Kastelic
The “Recken”, who competed in a special jersey on the occasion of the training match day, were in the lead for the first time by three goals (9:6) against the third-placed team in the DHB Cup thanks to a goal from Justus Fischer after twelve minutes. However, after TBV coach Florian Kehrmann ordered Urh Kastelic between the posts instead of Constantin Möstl (15th), the North Germans were unable to attack for a long time.
TSV coach Juan Carlos Pastor’s team failed in rows because of the Slovenian national goalkeeper, who had an unreal save rate of 78 percent 13 minutes after being substituted on. With such fantastic support, it wasn’t too difficult for the East Westphalians to turn the result in their favor. Two minutes before the break, Lemgo Lippe was leading 15:12.
TSV left winger August Pedersen reduced the score to 13:15 with a seven-meter penalty – it was the first goal after a goalless phase of 8:18 minutes. And just before the half-time siren, Pedersen also scored to make it 14:15.
Red card for TSV professional Stutzke
However, twelve minutes after the restart, when the score was 21:22, Pedersen also missed his third seven-meter penalty by hitting the ball on the post. At that point, the Norwegian had converted four of seven penalty throws. Afterwards, it remained a duel on equal terms – just like in the first leg in Lemgo, which Hannover-Burgdorf won in a dramatic way 30:29.
When the score was 27:27, TSV defense specialist Lukas Stutzke’s game ended early due to the third time penalty and the resulting red card (53′). However, the “Recken” continued to hold strong and Pedersen gave the hosts a 30:29 lead two minutes before the final siren. After the equalizer again, the North Germans had 40 seconds left to score the winning goal. But the “warriors” were very unhappy. It remained a draw. The most successful TSV professional was Pedersen with seven goals.
