Ethiopian Tigst Assefa, who left her rivals behind with a time of 2 hours, 15 minutes and 41 seconds in the women’s category, took the first place in London for the second consecutive time. Kenyan Hellen Obiri came in second, 12 seconds behind, and Joyciline Jepkosgei from the same country came in third, 14 seconds behind.


Kenyan Sabastian Sawe, who finished first in the men’s race with a time of one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds, broke the world record. Sawe improved his compatriot Kelvin Kiptum’s record of 2.00.35.


Sawe, who became the first person in history to run a marathon in under two hours, won the race in London for the second time in a row.


Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha took second place, 11 seconds behind, and Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo took third place, 58 seconds behind the leader.
