Track cyclist Harrie Lavreysen from Luyksgestel won the sprint tournament at the second World Cup competition of the season. In the keirin final, Hetty van de Wouw from Kaatsheuvel had no chance after colliding with the Chinese Wang Lijuan.
In Nilai, Malaysia, Lavreysen defeated Nicholas Paul from Trinidad and Tobago in both heats in the final, writes the NOS.
Revenge
The 29-year-old rider from Luyksgestel thus took revenge for his result last week in Hong Kong, when he was surprisingly beaten by Kaiya Ota in the quarter-finals. The Japanese was not there now.
Lavreysen, a two-time Olympic and seven-time world sprint champion, had defeated the Colombian Cristian Ortega, the Italian Mattia Predomo and the Russian Nikita Kiriltsev on his way to the final.
Onnew stronger
Paul, who reached the World Cup final in 2023 and lost to Lavreysen, was again no match for the Brabander.
