The final phase for the “Lions” was tough. The fans are offered a sending off and five goals – and a fuss about one of the goalscorers.

In the end, Markus Kauczinski thought it was just crazy. “That’s how it is at the end of the season, it can be 5:5 in the first half,” said the coach of TSV 1860 Munich after the wild 3:2 (0:0) in the 3rd league against SSV Ulm. All five goals in this game came in the final quarter of an hour – plus there was a yellow-red card for Niko Vukančić from Ulm (80th).

And there was a scandal surrounding ex-Bundesliga striker Florian Niederlechner (including Freiburg and Augsburg). Coming on as a substitute in the 75th minute, he scored just nine minutes later to make it 3-1 (84th). A game-deciding scene that probably caused him – still ecstatic and under pressure – to have an unnecessary skirmish with the Ulm fans.

After his goal, he turned around and ran in front of the Ulm fan curve – pointing his finger at the crowd and shouting. What came from his lips is not entirely clear based on the scene. However, Ulm’s goalkeeper, Christian Ortag, didn’t want to put up with that, rushed out of the goal and grabbed Niederlechner by his jersey collar. Only referee Nico Fuchs and other Munich players were able to separate the two. Fuchs then showed each of the combatants a yellow card.

After six games without a win in a row, the “Lions” fought for a three-pointer again on matchday 35. “Overall, we showed that we want to win today, also to make another good game for our fans,” said Kauczinski after a turbulent week in which, among other things, the end of captain Jesper Verlaat’s contract was confirmed.

Tim Danhof gave the “Lions” the lead in the 74th minute with a direct free kick. With his 15th goal of the season, Sigurd Haugen (77th) completed the double strike after an assist from Niederlechner, who later scored the third goal. The decimated Ulm team managed to catch up twice more thanks to Elias Löder (83rd) and Evan Brown (90th + 3).
