The man was driving his car from the direction of Rekkem when he lost control of the vehicle shortly before the roundabout. He swerved, collided with some posts on the central reservation and eventually came to a stop against the concrete edge of the roundabout.
Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene and had to free the driver from the vehicle. He received first aid and was then transferred to the hospital in Kortrijk in a critical condition.
Due to the accident, part of the roundabout was temporarily closed to traffic. The circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
