Most applications for royal honors lead to an appointment as Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau. This is the sixth degree in the order. More than 80 percent of the chosen ones receive this award. These generally concern volunteers who work at a local level.
Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau is the fifth degree in the order. People who are appointed Knights usually have merits with a regional or even national appearance and significance.
The fourth degree in the Order of Orange-Nassau is Officer. This degree is intended for persons with exceptional merits of (inter)national appearance.
In addition to the Order of Orange-Nassau, there is also the Order of the Netherlands Lion. This order is intended for persons who have made achievements of an exceptional nature, often in the arts or science.
