NAC was no match for Ajax on Saturday evening and lost 0-2 in its own Rat Verlegh Stadium. The second goal of the team from Amsterdam, made by Mika Godts, was of great beauty and was even reminiscent of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s famous dribble. Three more matches await NAC to try to prevent relegation from the Eredivisie.

The Rat Verlegh Stadium was again filled with more than 20,000 spectators who wanted to make it an old-fashioned NAC evening. Yet during the first half there was less and less noise from the stands. This mainly had to do with the level of coach Carl Hoefkens’ team. After a reasonable start, the game shown became less and less.

Ajax did not even play very well, but did take the lead after 20 minutes through Oscar Gloukh who was given plenty of space on the right. Mika Godts’ second Ajax goal has a chance of being nominated for goal of the year this season. The Belgian dribbled past the entire Breda defense and finally goalkeeper Daniel Bielica: 0-2.

NAC immediately accelerated in the second half and showed that they wanted to go for a result. This did not lead to really great opportunities in the initial phase. On the other hand, it was Ajax midfielder Jorthy Mokio who tested NAC goalkeeper Bielica with a header.

Also in the last half hour it was NAC that wanted to, but simply had too little quality. Even against an Ajax that is far from in top form, there were virtually no chances for the home team. And when there was an opportunity, as for substitute Lewis Holtby, it was handled poorly.

For the NAC supporters, a disappointing last NAC evening this season and possibly even the last for a long time, as the Kitchen Champion Division is threatened.

Relegation?

NAC will closely monitor the performances of Excelsior (at home against FC Utrecht) and FC Volendam (away at Heracles Almelo) on Sunday. Both teams are three points ahead of the people of Breda and can therefore do good business in the battle for enforcement or place sixteen, which means play-offs.

Remaining program NAC:
-Saturday May 2: FC Utrecht – NAC
-Sunday May 10: NAC – SC Heerenveen
-Sunday May 17: AZ – NAC
