He won a lot and took part in World Cup races, but now it’s over. Livio Simonet is putting an end to his successful career.
After years in competitive sports, the farewell comes: Swiss ski racer Livio Simonet is ending his career. He looked back again on Instagram – with pictures from different phases of his life.
“Where it all began, where it ends and a lot in between,” Simonet captioned a series of pictures that showed him as a child, with teammates, cheering and racing. The technology specialist competed in the World Cup and FIS races for five years, and there won’t be another one.
“The time has come for me,” said the 27-year-old. “I’ve had the privilege of traveling the world and competing with my mates at the highest level. In addition to hard and painful years, I’ve also been lucky enough to celebrate some success.” And further: “In the end, what remains are the memories, the adventures and the friends that I made along the way.”
One reason for the decision may have been the lost squad spot in the Swiss ski team. Simonet was no longer part of the World Cup selection last season. He’s still looking ahead: “From now on, I’m looking forward to a future in which I can spend more time with family and friends and do all the things that I haven’t had time for before.”
