The passage allows, among other things, a direct route between Boeveriestraat and the King Albert I Park. Cyclists therefore no longer have to use the temporary crossing at Stationsplein. The connection should also make a difference for those who cycle to the station from Sint-Michiels, Assebroek or Sint-Kruis.
According to Flemish Minister Annick De Ridder, the tunnel also increases road safety. “Motorized traffic and pedestrians and cyclists no longer conflict with each other. This makes it safer and ensures a smoother flow.”
