Johannes H. (45) from Son en Breugel was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday for sexually abusing his own daughters. One year of this is conditional, with a probationary period of three years. H. must also be treated compulsorily.
During the corona period, H. ended up at home. Then the sexual abuse started. That happened when mother worked night shifts and H. was home alone with the children. He then got the youngest of the girls out of bed and groped her and himself.
H. told his daughter, who was nine years old at the time, that “daddy would have to go to jail” if she said anything. And so the girl didn’t tell anyone. All this should never have happened, H. said emotionally in court two weeks ago: “I got a reaction in my body that I did not understand.”
Daughter had to do chores
In the summer of 2020, his other daughter asked if she could do chores for money. H. then decided to do the same with her as he did with his other daughter. He abused the 10-year-old, but he said it felt wrong. “I couldn’t do it. I didn’t know what to do with it. I broke it off and gave her money.”
During the period of the sexual abuse, father and mother were in the middle of a contested divorce. After the divorce, H. hung cameras in the bathroom. He secretly recorded his daughters four times while they were not wearing any clothes.
Daughters did not dare to tell their story
Ultimately, the sexual abuse came to light during conversations with Veilig Thuis. There H. told what he had done. The daughters then also told their story. They didn’t dare to do that before.
The court ruled on Friday that all criminal offenses had been proven. In addition to the prison sentence and mandatory treatment, H. must also pay compensation of 6,000 euros to both daughters.
