Gert-Jan Theunisse’s story is not an isolated one. The cycling icon felt downright humiliated in the Netherlands after years in Mallorca. Remigration rarely turns out to be easy. Legally it is always allowed – Dutch people have the right to return – but in practice it requires an enormous amount of preparation, financial buffers and perseverance.
