Muse continue to keep the excitement surrounding their upcoming album “The Wow! Signal” high. With the new single “Cryogen”, the British band provides the next taste of their tenth studio album. It is scheduled to be released on June 26, 2026. The song follows the previously released tracks “Unravelling” and “Be With You”. It sharpens the image of an album that could apparently lead Muse more towards their classic space rock signature.
Back into orbit
The previous pre-release tracks already indicated that the band wanted to build on the sound that made Muse a style-defining alternative rock band in the early 2000s. “Cryogen” starts right there: The song works with cutting guitars and an urgent groove. The dramaturgy oscillates between controlled force and anthemic exaggeration. In terms of reception, the title is already associated with earlier Muse classics such as “Plug In Baby”.

“The Wow! Signal” refers to the legendary astronomical radio signal from 1977. It is still associated with the idea of extraterrestrial communication today. Thematically, the band also remains true to their penchant for large images. This space and future metaphor runs through the entire album campaign. The new single fits seamlessly into a narrative that sits between science fiction, pathos and classic arena rock.
While 2022’s “Will Of The People” was more political and direct, the new album era seems focused on escapism, breadth and technical opulence. The material was produced with Dan Lancaster, among others.
Next step towards the album start
With “Cryogen” Muse further heightens the expectations for “The Wow! Signal”. The song works as an independent, powerful rock track. At the same time, it is a strategic component of an album campaign that relies on large images and strong recognition. The focus is on returning to the band’s core qualities.
It will be seen in June whether the album consistently achieves the suggested mixture of monumentality and musical directness.
