Returning after three years?

Yannik Engelhardt could return to SC Freiburg in the summer. According to information from “Sky”, the Breisgau team is interested in permanently signing the defensive midfielder, who is currently on loan from Como to Borussia Mönchengladbach. The SCF should thus prepare for a possible departure of Johan Manzambi.

Engelhardt played for Freiburg from 2021 to 2023, but only for the second team. Initially coming on loan from Werder Bremen, the club signed him for 900,000 euros in 2023, but sold him directly to Fortuna Düsseldorf for 3.8 million euros. From there he moved on to the Italians a year later for 8 million euros, with whom the 25-year-old is tied until 2027.

In addition to the Freiburg team, his current loan club Gladbach is also interested in permanent employment, it is said. However, the transfer fee demanded by Como could become a problem. How high this is is not stated. Engelhardt’s market value is 6 million euros.

The sum is probably more manageable for Freiburg. Especially if Manzambi were to leave and bring fresh millions into the coffers. The 20-year-old is Freiburg’s most valuable player with a market value of 35 million euros – the SCF has never earned more than 25 million euros from a player sale in its history. According to reports, Freiburg will only be willing to talk if there is an offer of over 30 million euros. Top European clubs are said to be keeping an eye on the Swiss international, but a decision is unlikely to be made until after the World Cup. Manzambi’s working paper is dated 2030.
