The patient portal of the Bravis hospital in Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom is back online after more than two weeks. The portal was down due to the hack at software company ChipSoft, but can be used again after an internal investigation.

Due to the hack, the patient portal was pulled as a precaution on April 7. Like most hospitals in Brabant, Bravis uses ChipSoft’s digital patient file. The company is a major player: in addition to the majority of hospitals in the province, several general practitioners also work with the systems.

No suspicious traces were found in most hospitals’ systems. That is why many patient portals could remain open. For the Bravis Hospital in Bergen op Zoom and Roosendaal and the Bernhoven in Uden, it remained unclear for more than a week what the consequences of the hack would be for patients.

No data stolen
The hospital emphasized again on Thursday that no patient data was stolen. “We understand that patients are concerned about their privacy,” said director Albert-Jan Mante in a statement. “ChipSoft has stated that the data incident does not involve Bravis patient data.”

GPs victim
This seems to save hospitals in Brabant. A number of Brabant general practitioners were affected by the hack. It was announced on Thursday that cybercriminals threatened to publish that data on the dark web earlier this week. The hackers use a countdown clock to pressure ChipSoft to pay.

That countdown clock has now disappeared and the software company is negotiating with the hackers. The criminals claimed to have stolen more than 100 gigabytes of data.

Care at the Bravis hospital continued during the outage. Taking the system offline did cause extra work. “For example, the healthcare administration had to enter referrals manually and the secretariats also experienced extra pressure.”
