The AZ selection won the KNVB Cup last Sunday by beating NEC 5-1. There was then a ceremony at the stadium and it was repeated on Tuesday. The selection and staff went through Alkmaar on a flat cart and were cheered by thousands of people. “A week full of joy and happiness,” says Dijkstra.
For trainer Leeroy Echteld it was a puzzle for the match with Go Ahead Eagles. Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro, Alexandre Penetra, Elijah Dijkstra and Sven Mijnans played the entire cup final and then ninety minutes in the Adelaarshorst. “If you see what they have done in recent days and can be on the field like that, that is very impressive,” said Echteld.
