First anger post, then delete it, then talk: Labrinth explains the “Euphoria” break – and contradicts Sam Levinson directly.

In the weeks before the release of the new “Euphoria” season, musician Labrinth caused a stir with clear words on Instagram. At that time, he announced that he would no longer be a part of the series and signed off with the announcement: “I’m done with this industry. Fuck Columbia. Fuck you twice Euphoria. I’m out.”

Now the artist followed up: In a detailed interview with “GQ” magazine and in a now-deleted Instagram post, he provided new insights into the background to his exit.

Between self-criticism and clarification

In the interview, Labrinth describes his postings about “Euphoria” at the time as “out of character” and emphasizes that he had never made a public statement in this form before. At the same time, he made it clear that Hans Zimmer had not replaced him – the original plan was to create the soundtrack together.

When asked about the reasons for his exit, Labrinth replied: “It’s sad that we’ve come to this point.” Looking back, he remembered that there were “no expectations” in the first season. Everything came about through raw energy and the vision of Sam Levinson – something he continues to credit him with.

Still, Labrinth acknowledged that the dynamic between him and Levinson has changed over time. At some point both of them were no longer in creative balance and he no longer felt respected. He also emphasized that Levinson knew exactly why he left the series – in contrast to his statement in the third season premiere, in which Levinson stated that he did not know the reasons.

Unreleased music and possible side swipes

Towards the end of the conversation, Labrinth played several new songs for the journalist. One of these was described as heavily Western-inspired; According to “GQ”, the musician presented it with a cheeky smile. This could be seen as a subtle allusion to the fact that he could have easily implemented Levinson’s creative ideas – especially his western fantasies.

Another song is said to lyrically deal with the topic of sex work. Both Western aesthetics and the topic of sex work are among the central motifs of the new “Euphoria” season. Despite the presentation of these pieces, Labrinth was convinced that he did not want to publish the songs.

New Instagram post raises questions

Although he had described his previous social media outbursts as out of character, the next post followed shortly afterwards. In a now-deleted post, he asked: “I should continue to release a song every Euphoria Sunday, right?” He then added: “And using the drama and the people who have supported me for years to generate more sales… Yeah, that’s a great idea.”

Parallel to the first “Euphoria Sunday”, Labrinth actually released a new single. Many fans still interpreted his words as ironic – not least in the context of the interview. There is also speculation that he is critical of his new song being used among edits from the current season.
