huh? This is what those texts do at the wells at the Dobbeplas

Yellow texts have been placed on the street at the wells around the Grote Dobbe behind the Stadshart. ‘This is where the sea starts, please don’t throw anything in’, we read. A great campaign, we now know. We just don’t know yet who posted the lyrics on the street.

Waste and dirt on the street disappear straight into the sewer via the drains. Our junk eventually ends up in the sea and that has major consequences for people, animals and nature. This action alerts us to our behavior. Cigarette butts, plastic, paper and other waste should not be on the street in any case. And to think that a lot of junk disappears into the sea through those wells.

Fish, us and birds

Rotary Zoetermeer read about a similar campaign in the municipality of Katwijk. Chairman Martin van der Heijden says: “Two years ago we saw that tiles had been laid in Katwijk with the text The sea starts here please don’t throw anything in by the local rotary club. We thought that was such a good move. All that waste ends up on our plates. Fish eat it, we and birds eat the fish and that’s how everything gets mixed up. Not really good for our health. That is why we decided to have the tiles made as well. They are located on the schoolyards of all primary schools in Zoetermeer.”

Who will help us further?

A similar action has been observed at the drains around the Dobbeplas for a few months now. A yellow text in chalk paint warns us. “But we are not behind this campaign,” says Martin. We have submitted our question to the municipality, but nothing is known there either. That is why we enlist your help. Do you know who the creator of this yellow text is? We would like to write a positive message about it so that all Zoetermeer residents can read who is behind this message. You can email (anonymously) to [email protected]

We searched for much more for you…
