HANNOVER (dpa-AFX) – At the opening of the Hanover Trade Fair, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva emphasized the importance of renewable energies for sustainable economic growth. “Brazil can help the European Union reduce energy costs and decarbonize its industry,” he said, representing partner country Brazil at the world’s largest industrial show. Brazil is one of the countries with the cleanest energy mix in the world. 92 percent of electricity is generated from renewable energies.

“The consistent approach to renewable energies has strengthened our energy security. Brazil is one of the countries least affected by the madness of the war with Iran. We are not suffering from the rise in oil prices like other countries are currently doing,” said Lula. “The president of a country that produces a lot of oil speaks to them: We are of the opinion that it is urgently necessary to find a way to use clean energy sources if we want to save humanity.”/dde/DP/he
