Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for new music from the artist. Now the time has come: their new single “Drop Dead” was released on April 17, 2026.
New single with music video from Versailles
Olivia Rodrigo’s next era officially begins with her new song “Drop Dead”, the first single from her upcoming third album YOU SEEM PRETTY SAD FOR A GIRL SO IN LOVE. The accompanying music video, filmed at the Palace of Versailles and directed by Petra Collins, can be seen below.
She will perform the new track for the first time as “Saturday Night Live” host on May 2, 2026.
New album as a creative challenge
The pop singer previously described her album YOU SEEM PRETTY SAD FOR A GIRL SO IN LOVE, the follow-up to 2023’s GUTS, as a “creative challenge” because it was made during her relationship with British actor Louis Partridge.
“I realized that all of my favorite romantic love songs were so beautiful because they had a hint of fear or longing in them,” the artist explained, adding that she was inspired by the obsession and turmoil of her own romantic relationship.
