The everyday life of actress Seela Sellan, 89, has changed with a cancer diagnosis.
Due to her tumor in her pharynx, Sella is currently fed through a feeding tube. The PEG tube is installed through the abdominal wall directly into the stomach.
To some extent, Sella has also tried to eat orally in the usual way.
– This tube feeding is really boring. I try as hard as I can to keep my throat open. But when swallowing hurts, he explains to Iltalehte by phone.
Sella was diagnosed with hypopharyngeal cancer earlier this spring. The actor currently receives daily radiation therapy for his illness, ten minutes at a time.
– It’s absolutely terrible. A terrible hood is put on the head, which protects the rest of the body, so that the radiation does not go anywhere else than it should. It binds in place and cannot move at all, Sella describes.
The actor’s distaste for the device has not gone unnoticed by the medical staff.
– They laugh when I always shout “I hate everything, I hate everything, I hate everything”, says Sella.
Radiation treatments have now been arranged until the beginning of June. Then we will see how effective the treatments have been.
Such is health
According to her, Sella has had no side effects from the treatments themselves. He says he is doing relatively well at the moment.
– I’m damn tired. I can’t really handle anything. My son and I took the dog to the dog park and I was completely taken aback, says Sella.
However, the actor can’t rest. He is already planning his future designs very hard. The expenses canceled from spring due to sick leave have been moved to autumn and new things are also planned.
– Rest does not cure this disease, Sella snorts.
The actor is in a good mood.
– We can’t just sit and cry here. Let’s go one moment at a time. I’m curious to see what the next day brings.
Above all, Sella wants to send greetings to people.
– Let’s see if we live until autumn. Then there are a lot of hard jobs, he says.

Seela Sella’s pharyngeal cancer diagnosis was reported earlier in April. He had been diagnosed a few weeks earlier.
– I am terribly sorry that I had to cancel all work from April and May. Let’s see what happens in June, Sella told Iltalehti at the time.
– Damn bad luck. We’ll see if grandma survives the summer, he said.
Sella turns 90 on December 30.
