KIEV/MOSCOW (dpa-AFX) – The Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian Black Sea port of Tuapse caused a major fire at the oil facilities there. Rescue workers in the Krasnodar region reported in the afternoon that extinguishing work was underway, as reported by the Russian state news agency Tass. By evening there was no usual report that the fire had been contained or extinguished.
Photos on social networks showed a kilometer-high column of black smoke over the port of Tuapse. The command of the Ukrainian army special forces said that oil loading facilities and objects at the local refinery were damaged. The complex belongs to the largest Russian oil company Rosneft.
In its resistance to Moscow’s war of aggression, Ukraine is trying to disrupt the Russian oil industry. Two people were killed in the attack on Tuapse that night and more than 50 houses in the port city were damaged, according to authorities./fko/DP/he
