Arjen Lubach’s break week was not a success. He has given NPO 1 declining viewing figures by announcing stand-up comedy for four evenings. “It just wasn’t much fun either.”

Arjen Lubach has set sky-high viewing figures for over a month with De Avondshow with Arjen Lubach on NPO 1, but he finds such a daily talk show terribly tiring. Typical wimp generation, cried Catherine Keyl. The solution? This week Arjen brought four evenings of pre-recorded episodes of stand-up comedy.

Viewership drop

Where Arjen last week attracted an average of 1.1 million viewers with De Avondshow, his stand-up comedy week was viewed by an average of 680 thousand people in recent days. A huge viewership drop. The last comedy special of De Avondshow attracted 640 thousand viewers (14% market share) yesterday.

Angela de Jong is not surprised at all. It just wasn’t fun, she thinks. “I’m just not very fond of the stand-up genre, because I always think: yes, nice that it’s about you and that you have this… (…) It is very different from what you get at Lubach and I keep thinking it’s crazy,” she says in the AD Media podcast

Small theater

Stand-up is more something for NPO 3, according to Angela. “NPO 1 is a channel for the masses and I think stand-up thrives in a small theater where someone is on stage and you all sit around that stage and then have a nice evening with a hundred people.”

It also radiated no urgency at all, she continues. “When did they record it? Last week? Because Arjen Lubach was there and he went to sleep this whole week and because of that you could already see that it was not live.”

Floor on one

It can’t be the lead-in: NPO 1 was the prime-time winner with 1.4 million viewers (26%) for Floortje Naar Het Einde Van De Wereld and 1 million viewers (20%) for Dit Was Het Nieuws.

SBS 6 takes silver with 857 thousand viewers (16%) for Mr. Frank Visser Does Uitspraak and 720 thousand viewers (15%) for Today Inside and Veronica bronze with 762 thousand viewers (15%) for Leicester – PSV.

RTL 4 did not get more than 622 thousand viewers (11%) for Expedition Robinson, which is a complete failure this season. The reality show doesn’t even make the top 15 ratings this week.

Viewing figures

Programs that (also) did not reach the top fifteen viewing figures include Khalid and Sophie (535 thousand), KVW (520 thousand), Jinek (514 thousand), Shownieuws (511 thousand), Time for MAX (504 thousand) and HLF8 ( 251 thousand).
