Jamie Dornan inherits Viggo Mortensen: Warner has officially confirmed the Northern Irishman as young Aragorn in “The Hunt for Gollum” – theatrical release in December 2027.
In 2027, JRR Tolkien’s stories about the world of Middle-earth and the ring that determines their fate are set to return to the big screen. The start of production on the new spin-off from the “Lord of the Rings” universe, “The Hunt for Gollum”, is imminent. A younger version of a well-known hero from the original trilogy will return as the lead role. Fans and the industry have been speculating for a long time about who would take over – now there is finally clarity.
First Christian Grey, now Aragorn
Back then, Viggo Mortensen played his way into the hearts of many fans as Aragorn. To this day, the tramp, who later becomes King of Gondor, is one of the most popular characters in the “Lord of the Rings” cosmos. It is now clear who will succeed the Dane. According to rumors, Netflix star Leo Woodall was supposed to take on the role – but these turned out to be false. Warner announced that Jamie Dornan will take on the role.
Most people will know the Northern Irish actor in his role as Christian Gray from the film adaptations of the “Fifty Shades of Gray” series. He also starred in the Oscar-nominated art house drama Belfast and the series The Tourist. After the casting was announced, there was speculation that he had won the race because of his appearance in the British mini-series “New Worlds”.
