The Rolling Stones have released a new song under the name The Cockroaches. Even though it was only released on vinyl, it still ended up online.

The Rolling Stones have a new song. But it’s not “Mr Charm”, as the British “Sun” recently suggested, but “Rough & Twisted”. However, the band released the single under their pseudonym The Cockroaches, which they had previously used for small concerts, and exclusively on vinyl.

Meanwhile, a full recording of “Rough & Twisted” has been released online after the single was released last Saturday (April 11) as a white label record limited to just 1,000 copies. Unsurprisingly, it is already sold out, which is why there is of course great interest in the online copy.

“Yeah, all you feed me was just rancid rice and bones/ All I drank was muddy water/ As lonely as a saxophone/ Why don’t you take me/ To where I wanna go? To Natchez, Mississippi, Sicily and Rome,” says the lyrics to extremely scrappy 70s blues rock guitars. However, the production sounds anything but nostalgic, but rather crisp.

Is the Rolling Stones’ new album coming in July?

“Rough & Twisted” gives a first taste of the Rolling Stones’ new album, which is still untitled but was already hinted at some time ago. The release of their 25th record is planned for July, but has not yet been officially announced. It would be the successor to HACKNEY DIAMONDS from 2023. Apparently the Stones liked working with producer Andrew Watt on the LP so much that they hired him again for the new album.

Initial rumors that the new album could possibly be the last have now been cast into doubt in a report in the Times. An insider revealed that Mick Jagger and Co. had at least ten more, almost finished pieces in the drawer. The tracks for the upcoming LP were also largely created during the HACKNEY DIAMONDS sessions. Recordings by drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021, should also be included.

Although the Rolling Stones no longer have to prove themselves, they recently initiated a real viral campaign with some posters with the name The Cockroaches hanging up in a few cities.

No further tour planned

Reportedly, the recording of the album has already been completed. The work took place over a longer period of time; the musicians were most recently in the Metropolis Studios in west London last year. If you want to see the Stones live with the new songs, you’ll have to be patient first. A tour is not planned, but there are a few appearances for advertising purposes.
