Novo Nordisk and OpenAI want to work together and use artificial intelligence (AI) to discover new drugs and increase efficiency.
A strategic partnership announced Tuesday will see OpenAI’s advanced AI capabilities integrated across the pharmaceutical company’s operations. This is intended to help employees analyze data and identify new drug candidates.
“Integrating AI into our daily work gives us the ability to analyze data sets at a scale not previously possible, identify patterns we couldn’t see before, and test hypotheses faster than ever before,” said Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Doustdar. “This means discovering new therapies and bringing them to market faster than ever before.”
The partnership will also apply OpenAI’s capabilities to become more efficient in manufacturing, supply chain, distribution and business operations. Pilot programs are being launched in the areas of research and development, production and commercial areas. Full integration is expected to take place by the end of 2026.
Financial details were not disclosed.
The Novo Nordisk share ultimately gained 3.32 percent to DKK 246.15 on the Danish stock exchange.
