BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Germany and Ukraine are continuing to expand their military cooperation. This was agreed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj at German-Ukrainian government consultations in Berlin. In addition, bilateral relations would be raised to the level of a strategic partnership, said Merz.
According to the Chancellor, further comprehensive support services have been agreed. This applies to air defense, long-range weapons, drones and artillery ammunition. There should also be an exchange of digital battle data for the development of new weapon systems. “What we are doing in this cooperation is not only beneficial for the defense of Ukraine. It is also particularly beneficial for us, for our security,” emphasized Merz.
“No army in Europe has been as tested in combat in recent decades as Ukraine. No society has become more resilient than Ukraine. No defense industry has become more innovative than Ukraine’s,” said Merz. “With our support, we are simultaneously strengthening German and European defense capabilities and our industrial base.”/sk/DP/nas
