The long-time successful coach Egil Kristiansen has lost his job with the Norwegian biathlon men. This is not the same as a resignation. The 60-year-old has long received inquiries from other associations.
For ten years, Egil Kristiansen was at the helm of the most successful biathlon team in the world. Under his leadership, the team around Johannes Thingnes Bø won every title imaginable. However, his era in the Norwegian team ended with the Olympic cycle. Now he’s without a job – yet.
As Kristiansen explained to the Norwegian news agency “NTB”, he has no plans to end his career just yet. It’s “too early” for that, says the 60-year-old. However, he left it open where exactly his future might lie. After all, he revealed: There is great interest in him.
“Everything is still a bit up in the air”
“There have been some inquiries, but until recently it wasn’t clear that I would be there [norwegischen] Biathlon team wouldn’t continue,” Kristiansen indicated that his departure from the Norwegian association came as a surprise to him. That’s why he hasn’t given any concrete thoughts about his future yet: “There’s not much I can say about it. Everything is still a bit up in the air.”
The fact that the Norwegian doesn’t have to worry much about his personal future is not only due to his successes with the Norwegian biathlon men, but also to his successful time with the Norwegian cross-country skiing women, which he looked after from 2006 to 2016 before moving to the ski hunters’ camp.
Kristiansen will vacate his post for Patrick Oberegger, who will move from the Norwegian women’s team to the men’s team and take over the management there together with Sverre Olsbu Røiseland. Røiseland previously worked as a shooting coach for the German women’s team.
