Union Berlin has surprisingly parted ways with coach Steffen Baumgart and promoted Marie-Louise Eta to head coach until the end of the season, becoming the first woman in Bundesliga history. The capital club announced the unexpected decision on Saturday evening shortly before midnight. A few hours earlier, the Berliners had lost 3-1 at bottom team Heidenheim. The lead of the eleventh in the table over relegation place 16 is still seven points.

Baumgart worked for HSV before his position in Berlin: he was on the sidelines in Hamburg until November 2024. In January 2025 he continued at Union. HSV will no longer play against Köpenicker in the final stretch of the season. In mid-February, Hamburg won against Union 3-2.

One game suspended: Hamburger SV can rely on top performer Miro Muheim in the northern derby at Werder Bremen in around two weeks. The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) suspended the 28-year-old for one game after his red card for an emergency stop against FC Augsburg (1-1). Muheim will miss the encounter at VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, but will be back at the rivals in Bremen.

The left-back from Switzerland is part of the Hanseatic League’s regular staff and will miss his second Bundesliga game this season due to the suspension. Muheim has often appeared as a substitute captain for HSV this season.

HSV professional Emir Sahiti is unlikely to play another game for Maccabi Tel Aviv. The 27-year-old Kosovo international left Israel with his family due to the tense security situation resulting from the Iran war. The offensive player, who has been on loan to the Israeli club from Hamburger SV since January, was already missing from the 4-1 win against Hapoel Haifa. According to reports, the club assumes that Sahiti will not return.

The Israeli league recently resumed play, but still without spectators due to ongoing rocket attacks. Foreign players had previously been free to leave the country. While some professionals returned, Sahiti and another player refused to return. His loan contract runs until June 30th, after which he is tied to HSV until 2027.
