Details about the Schlotterbeck clause

Despite Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract extension, Borussia Dortmund still needs central defense. On the one hand, this is because the central defender had an exit clause written into his contract, but successors are also being sought for Niklas Süle and Aarón Anselmino, who left on loan in January and was not replaced. A candidate has apparently been identified in Portugal.

According to the “Maisfutebol” portal, which enjoys a good reputation in Portugal, BVB is working on signing Ibrahima Ba. The 20-year-old central defender is tied to FC Famalicão until 2030 and has been a regular player in the Portuguese league since the second half of the season. The first discussions about a transfer have already taken place, but the first division club’s transfer expectations are enormous. They are hoping for around 25 million euros including bonuses – eight times the current market value.
Another defender active in Portugal, who, according to the report, is also on Dortmund’s list, could possibly be cheaper. Bastien Meupiyou played 28 games for FC Alverca this season and is 20 years old. The left-footer increased his market value from 2.5 million to 4 million euros this season after his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

BVB: Schlotterbeck clause valid for Real & Barça, not for FC Bayern
Both Ba and Meupiyou are more likely to be brought in as talents with an eye on the future than as immediate help in the event of Schlotterbeck’s departure. The 26-year-old can leave BVB using his release clause – although only certain clubs can make use of it. The first clubs that belong to it are now leaking out.
“Sky” confirmed information from “Mundo Deportivo” on Monday that Real Madrid could make a commitment after the World Cup for 50 to 60 million euros. Schlotterbeck has long been considered an option at the Royals because the contracts of Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba are expiring there and even Dean Huijsen’s €62.5 million addition was recently no longer undisputed.

According to the Spanish report, FC Barcelona is also said to be in the contract of the national player, who was booed by parts of the BVB fans at the home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen (0-1) on Saturday because of the clause. However, according to “Bild” and “Sky”, FC Bayern is not an option. Since Mats Hummels in 2016, only Raphaël Guerreiro (free transfer in 2023) has taken the direct route from Dortmund to Munich.
