Qhen a woman decides to leave a home where violence reigns, she finds herself faced with an abyss of uncertainties, fears and, too often, no economic independence. This is why the news coming from INPS is good news: the monthly “Freedom Income” allowance increases. The economic contribution intended for women victims of abuse who decide to rebuild their autonomy, reaches the figure of 530 euros, thirty euros more than last year and one hundred and thirty euros compared to 2025. Surely, this is not an increase that solves life, but for those who are trying to take back their freedom, every little resource is an important brick.
Increases the freedom income for women victims of violence
The “Freedom Income” was created with a specific objective: prevent a woman from returning to her tormentor just because she doesn’t know how to make ends meet. Economic dependence is, unfortunately, one of the heaviest chains to break in cases of family violence. Too often, in fact, the decision not to report and to stay does not depend at all on a lack of courage, but from the paralyzing fear of not knowing how to feed their children or how to pay rent the next morning. Knowing, therefore, to be able to count on help for an entire year it can make the difference between remaining in the darkness or taking the first step towards the light.
The news on the amounts and refunds in arrears
The Ministry’s decision has established that the new figure of 530 euros per month is valid for the whole of 2026. The INPS, however, also thought about the women who received help in 2025: them too they will receive an automatic top-up to cover the differencetherefore receiving the adjustments due up to the new threshold. A way to leave no one behind in this transition towards more dignified support. Payments for new 2026 applications will begin as soon as these update operations for previous years are completed, always following the order of arrival and, unfortunately, the availability of the allocated funds.

How to obtain the Freedom Income: a network that protects
To receive the contribution, the woman victim of violence does not have to face the bureaucracy alone. In fact, there is a protective network that serves to ensure that help reaches those who really need it. The application passes through the “Municipalities”, but the heart of the process are the “Anti-violence Centres” and social services. They are the ones who certify that the woman is actually following a path to rebuild her life. The state of economic need must be declared by the local social services. Once all the paperwork is in order, the Municipality sends the request to INPS. It is a team effort between institutions and volunteers to ensure that no one feels abandoned in their time of need.
A race against time and scarcity of resources
However, there is a delicate point that is good to know: the funds are not infinite. The “Freedom Income” is paid as long as there is money in the piggy bank made available by the State and the Regions. If resources run out, applications are blocked. A clause, which in the positive context of the measure, represents its real “bottleneck”: the right to the contributionIndeed, it is not universally guaranteedbut is closely linked to the actual capacity of the public wallet at the time the application is processed. How to say, the will to help is there, but the means to do so must not. A bitter reality, which hopefully can be changed as soon as possible.
