Six homes on Zetveld in Schoonoord will not be demolished after all. Karin Snippe lived in one of the houses until the middle of last year. According to her, stress caused her to have to move to Valthermond. She read with surprise the news about the houses that remain standing.
According to a letter from councilor Joop Slomp (PvdA) to the municipal council, the decision was made in consultation with the current residents of the six houses. “This decision is to the great satisfaction of the current residents,” Slomp said.
Exactly a year ago, the letterbox in the homes in Schoonoord-Noord and -Zuid rattled with the announcement from Woonservice that the houses would be demolished. The message caused a lot of anger, frustration, mental problems and unrest. This involved a total of 69 houses.
Snippe drove past her old house on the Zetveld last weekend. According to her, that was a surreal situation.
“It hurts me, I have lived there for more than 34 years. If I had known this earlier, I would have just stayed,” said Snippe. She has asked for help from legal aid to see what they can do.
According to a Woonservice spokesperson, the decision to refrain from demolition at the Zetveld is the result of ‘progressive insights’. According to the housing association, this decision could only now be made: “Earlier in the process, this consideration was not yet possible.”
Woonservice does not want to respond to Snippe’s frustration. “We do not discuss individual cases or personal situations in the media.”
In the autumn of 2025, there was a walk-in evening to collect feedback from the Schoonoorders for new plans. These plans were presented to residents on Monday, March 9.
Woonservice is currently working with the municipality on new sketches. “All these steps are aimed at a restructuring that contributes to a future-proof living environment for Schoonoord,” says Woonservice.
