Yellow-red card revoked

Second division leaders FC Schalke 04 can now use their defender Moussa Ndiaye again despite his sending off in Sunday’s 2-1 win at SV Elversberg. Schalke was successful in protesting against the Senegalese’s yellow-red card. According to the club, referee Michael Bacher admitted to having made a mistake in a telephone conversation with the German Football Association’s sports court.

Ndiaye was shown a yellow-red card in the 51st minute for what was supposed to be a repeated foul. This would have meant that the 23-year-old would have been suspended next Saturday against Preußen Münster. According to the television images and the referee’s statement, the arbitration tribunal followed Schalke’s argument that Ndiaye himself had been fouled by opponent Lukas Petkov. In the case of yellow-red cards, it is currently not possible for the video assistant to intervene. “It certainly wasn’t a yellow-red card,” even Elversberg’s coach Vincent Wagner said.
