Leipzigers make a profit

RB Leipzig can expect millions in income from Juventus Turin for Loïs Openda. The conditions for the obligation to buy the 26-year-old center forward have been met, and the Belgian is now firmly joining the Serie A club after his previous loan. Last summer, Openda initially moved to Italy temporarily for a loan fee of 3.3 million euros, with a further 800,000 euros in possible bonuses. The transfer fee negotiated between Juventus and Leipzig as part of a mandatory purchase option amounts to 40.6 million euros – payable in four financial years.
Including salary transfer, the total package is 46 million euros. In order for Openda to permanently move to Turin, the requirement had to be met that the Bianconeri finished the 205/26 season in at least 10th place. Nothing stands in the way of this plan: after 32 match days we are in 4th place with 60 points. There has not yet been an official transfer confirmation from the clubs.
RB makes a transfer profit with Openda, who came from RC Lens for 40 million euros in the summer of 2023 and was involved in 59 goals in 93 games. For Juventus, the attacker was the most valuable signing of last summer with a market value of 50 million euros – even more valuable than Jonathan David, who was signed on a free transfer and was valued at 45 million euros.
However, it cannot necessarily be assumed that Openda will stay with Juventus beyond this season. According to reports, the club will try to sell the offensive man again in the summer. Across all competitions, Openda only delivered two goals in 33 games. However, the right-footer was only on the pitch for 993 minutes and was part of the starting lineup nine times. Since his departure from RB, his market value has fallen by 18 million euros in three stages.
