Tom Holland has already seen “The Odyssey” and is thrilled: Christopher Nolan once again forgoes CGI – and creates scenes that even Holland could hardly believe.

“The Odyssey” is the latest film from star director Christopher Nolan and at the same time the most anticipated film of the year. It also promises to be an exciting year in cinema for Tom Holland: not only can he be seen in the 55-year-old’s latest epic, but he will also return to the big screen as a superhero as Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. The actor is one of the few who have already seen “The Odyssey” and is now drawing his first conclusions about the film.

“How did he do that?”

As Spider-Man, Tom Holland usually swings from green screen to green screen. Christopher Nolan, on the other hand, is known for largely foregoing digital effects and instead relying on manual means. In the past, this calculation has always worked out, and the Oscar winner has repeatedly been celebrated for his innovative style of filmmaking.

The Spider-Man actor also agrees. He recently gave an interview to “GQ” in which he discussed the film and had nothing but praise for the effects. Accordingly, Holland could hardly believe his eyes both on set and when watching the film. Of course it’s also part of the promo – he’ll hardly want to badmouth his own film.

“And there were certain scenes in the film that when I was watching it I thought to myself, ‘How in the world did he do that? It must be CGI.’ And after the movie was over, I asked him, ‘That was definitely CGI, right?’ And he was like, ‘No, no, no, these are all effects that were done right in front of the camera. Very well planned, very well prepared.’”

If the 29-year-old has his way, fans of “The Dark Knight” maker can once again look forward to a spectacular and innovative cinema experience that largely works without green screens or other modern cinema techniques.

When will “The Odyssey” be in theaters?

The film follows the wanderings of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon. These are based on Homer’s saga of the same name, which is still world famous today. After the Trojan Wars, Odysseus tries to return to his homeland of Ithaca – a journey that is said to be characterized by many adventures and hardships.

Fans don’t have to wait long for this. “The Odyssey” opens in German cinemas on July 16th.
