Just after the end of the first free practice session at Albert Park, Vettel’s Aston Martin came to a halt. The German had to return to the pit lane and a marshal offered Vettel a lift on the scooter. The Aston Martin driver preferred to drive himself and therefore jumped on the scooter himself. The scene produced nice images and on the way he waved to spectators in the stands.
Despite the fact that he did not drive fast, the ride still cost him dearly. After all, according to the rules of the FIA, you are not allowed to enter the track within five minutes after the session. The German did so and had to report to the stewards. They therefore decided to fine Vettel of 5,000 euros.
Vettel missed the first two races of the new season due to a corona infection.
