German ski jumping star praises new national coach

The new national coach of the German ski jumpers is called Andreas Mitter. One of the DSV stars is particularly pleased by the Austrian’s appointment.
Ski jumping star Felix Hoffmann believes in a successful collaboration with the new national coach Andreas Mitter. “It will be cool, it will work,” the 28-year-old told the portal “inSüdthüringen.de”.
Mitter was appointed as the new DSV Adler coach last week. Hoffmann already knows the Austrian very well. Most recently, Mitter was assistant coach of the German team.
“He played a big part in my recent development,” he emphasized. “The DSV included us athletes in the considerations, which I thought was very good.” However, the final decision rested with the top of the association.
The 2025 German champion also described Mitter as “younger and looser” than his predecessor Stefan Horngacher. “We have also advocated making the course system more open and comprehensive again in the future,” said Hoffmann. “I think that will happen too.”
Horngacher resigned from his position after the Winter Olympics in February. The 56-year-old’s decision was already communicated in October. “I’ve been a head coach for ten years now. Seven years in Germany, before that three years in Poland. That takes a toll,” he said, explaining his move.
With Mitter, a new era is beginning at DSV. He had previously assisted Horngacher for three years. “I’m really looking forward to my new role in the German Ski Association and would like to contribute my know-how and experience as a long-time trainer,” said the 44-year-old in a DSV statement last week.
Sports director Horst Hüttel also explained that Mitter had earned a high level of appreciation in recent years both in Germany and internationally. “We trust that Andreas can provide the necessary new impetus with his expertise and high level of commitment,” explained the official.
