Hertha announces reappraisal with fans

After the fan riots at the game in Dresden, Hertha BSC announced how the club plans to deal with the incident.
Hertha BSC plans to deal with the riots from the second division game at Dynamo Dresden together with its own fan scene. At the same time, the club wants to support the investigations by the security authorities – without anticipating the results.
As the capital club announced, it is in close contact with Dynamo Dresden, the German Football Association and the security authorities. “In addition, we see an urgent need for an exchange with the active fan scene in which the events are critically examined,” it said.
Hertha does not want to provide its own assessments of the processes or even speculations for the time being: “We are therefore currently not able to make an appropriate assessment of the triggers and processes and are not entitled to do so for legal reasons.”
Both fan camps initially set off pyrotechnics in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium. Followers then climbed over the fences. Masked Dresden fans ran along the pitch to the Hertha block and stole a guest flag. Pyrotechnics flew in both directions, the game was interrupted twice, and police stormed onto the field. The Berliners won the game 1-0. The police opened more than a dozen investigations.
It was the third time this season that Hertha fans and police made national headlines – previously this was the case after the home games against Dynamo Dresden and FC Schalke 04. After the Schalke game, Hertha stood behind its supporters and criticized the police’s tactics.
This time the reaction was different. Managing director Peter Görlich said: “This is of course grist to the mill of the big critics. We are aware of that.” The events did not correspond to his “values framework”.
On Saturday, Hertha welcomes 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Olympic Stadium (from 1 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). Regarding possible changes to the security concept, the club explained that it was in constant communication with the authorities and that “all known information and insights gained on current situations and developments were incorporated into the assessment”.
