The FC Bayern women will take their ticket to the DFB Cup final on Easter Monday. With a confident 4-0 win against SGS Essen, the Munich team once again demonstrated their national dominance.
Making it to the final of the DFB Cup was almost just a formality for the FC Bayern Women: As expected, the league dominators had full control over second-to-last SGS Essen in the semi-finals on Easter Monday. The goal scorers Momoko Tanikawa (29th), Pernille Harder (40th) and Edna Imade (45th + 4, 73rd) gave the fans at the FC Bayern campus a 4-0 Easter victory.
FCB initially surprised by the high pace
José Barcala made four changes after reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League. Compared to the 2-1 win against Manchester United at the Allianz Arena Magdalena Eriksson, Stine Ballisager, Arianna Caruso and Edna Imade started for Glódís Viggósdóttir, Vanessa Gilles, Bernadette Amani and Carolin Simon.
The Munich team initially seemed a bit surprised by the high speed and aggressiveness of the SGS. It was only over time that the adjustment was achieved.
Momoko Tanikawa works magic in front of the goal
In the 21st minute the ball hit the net for the first time – but Arianna Caruso’s goal was disallowed for offside. A little later, however, the quality of the Munich women prevailed: Momoko Tanikawa gave her team the lead after a pass over Giulia Gwinn’s heel.
In the 40th minute, the FCB struck again and the Japanese Tanikawa had her foot in the game again: her precise cross landed on Pernille Harder’s forehead – she was able to neatly nod the ball in to make it 2-0. A slapstick goal to make it 3-0 by Edna Imade decided the game shortly before half-time.
Imade impresses with a double pack
The second half initially dragged on. FCB coach Barcala substituted Carolin Simon for Franziska Kett, Barbara Dunst for Pernille Harder, Bernadette Amani for Georgia Stanway and a little later Natalia Padilla-Bidas for Linda Dallmann. But even after the substitutions, there was a bit of a lack of liveliness on both sides and scoring chances were scarce at this stage of the game.
Edna Imade knew how to interrupt this slow phase of the game: The striker sent Dunst through on the left side, Dunst crossed into the box, where Imade appeared again and was able to nod the ball in. The Spaniard scored her brace and increased the score to 4-0. A little later, Padilla-Bidas had the 5-0 on her feet – she ran freely towards the box, but Essen keeper Luisa Palmen made a strong save, and the Munich woman’s follow-up shot was also unsuccessful.
DFB Cup final against VfL Wolfsburg
In the final on May 14th, coach Jose Barcala’s team will now face long-term rivals VfL Wolfsburg, who beat Carl Zeiss Jena on penalties on Sunday. The FCB women then want to repeat their cup victory from last year and crown a great season: In the Bundesliga, the Munich women are the measure of all things – one win is still missing from the championship – and in the Champions League the FCB women are in the semi-finals for the first time since 2020/21.
