Expert: Trump will never become a member of the legendary golf club

Donald Trump likes to play golf often. But he is not universally popular in the sports scene.
The Augusta National Golf Club in the US state of Georgia is one of the best-known and most popular golf clubs in the world. It organizes the annual Masters tournament and has counted some prominent names among its members in its long history, including entrepreneur Warren Buffett and the former US general Dwight Eisenhower.
But Donald Trump, despite his love of golf and the necessary change – membership in the elite circle reportedly costs the equivalent of between 21,000 and 42,000 euros – will never be one of them. At least Butch Harmon is convinced of that. The former golfer and trainer of Tiger Woods said in a media round: “He is who he is. He is full of himself. He is the type of person who, in my opinion, does not fit the profile of an Augusta member.”
The fact that Trump is the President of the USA makes no difference. “I don’t think that has anything to do with it, because there have been many other presidents who have played golf and are not members. (…) I think it’s simply because his personality doesn’t fit this particular club. I can’t put it more politically correctly,” “The Independent” quotes the 82-year-old as saying.
Trump owns several golf courses himself, including in Florida and Scotland. His handicap is not exactly known. Many years ago he himself claimed to have a handicap of 2.8.
But sports journalist Rick Reilly claimed in his book “Commander in Cheat” that Trump likes to cheat when playing golf. “Saying ‘Donald Trump cheats’ is like saying ‘Michael Phelps swims,'” Reilly said in April 2019. “If Trump is 2.8, the Queen is a pole vaulter.”
