It has been clear since last week that Andreas Mitter will be the new national coach for the DSV Adler. The Austrian succeeds his Austrian compatriot Stefan Horngacher, who resigned from his position after seven years. Felix Hoffmann thinks the 45-year-old is the right man.
“It’ll be cool, it’ll work,” says the second-best German ski jumper of the last World Cup winter. Felix Hoffmann added in an interview with the portal “inSüdthüringen.de” that he was “absolutely” pleased that the German Ski Association chose Andreas Mitter for his exercise bike in Chiemgau.
The DSV Eagles also had a say in the decision, as the 28-year-old revealed: “Andreas Mitter has played a large part in my recent development. From the DSV side, we athletes were included in the considerations, which I thought was very good. The final decision was of course made by the top of the association.”
Compared to Stefan Horngacher, Mitter is “younger and more relaxed,” Hoffmann continued, referring to the new national coach. The DSV Adler had spoken out in favor of “making the course system more open and comprehensive again in the future”. A wish that will probably be fulfilled for the German athletes under the new head coach: “I think that will happen too.”
Geiger, Schmitt and Eisenbichler also impressed
Mitter already knows the DSV team very well, as he has been active as an assistant coach under Horngacher since 2023. The Austrian already gained experience as a head coach in Finland. “I think it will be good,” Karl Geiger had already told “SID” at the World Cup final in Planica. Two former professionals also welcomed the choice.
“Andreas is a great coach, as is Thomas Thurnbichler. They both have everything they need to be successful. I also said during the season that you can fill the position of national coach with people who already work in the system,” says “Eurosport” expert Martin Schmitt with certainty. Markus Eisenbichler also agreed.
“I always enjoyed training with him. Andreas is a very good organizer and always keeps an overview – that’s what you need as a national coach. But what will no longer be the case: from now on he will work less on the individual athletes themselves,” Eisenbichler praised the new head coach of the DSV-Adler: “He is a top person and a top coach, a very good decision was made.”
