Harry Kane is missing injured, but Tom Bischof and Lennart Karl deliver instead. FC Bayern turned the game in Freiburg around impressively in the final phase and the Bundesliga Update Podcast team discussed whether Bayern showed in Freiburg that they are ready for Real Madrid on Tuesday. Sports show presenter Alex Schlüter says: Yes! Real can come.
Until the 81st minute, SC Freiburg courageously defended a long-deserved lead against FC Bayern. And even though FCB’s pressure had gradually increased: it seemed as if the sports club could become the second team this season to win against Bayern after FC Augsburg. But then Tom Bischof and Lennart Karl came.
Bishop equalized Breisgauer’s two-goal lead within ten minutes. In the ninth minute of injury time, Lennart Karl scored the three-to-two winning goal. Bayern were celebrated by the fans who had traveled with them.
Strong until the last second
The podcast team was particularly impressed by the winning goal: “The way Bayern played it out through Kimmich and Davis in stoppage time is world-class,” says Sportschau presenter Alex Schlüter. “At least two-thirds of the Bundesliga players simply blindly hit the ball into the penalty area from the Kimmich position,” podcast host Jens Walbrodt also confirms the impression. “Bayern looked more ready for the Champions League quarter-finals than Real Madrid on Saturday. The Madrilenians lost 1-2 against Mallorca.”
Real Madrid coach Arbeloa called on many of his top players in the league defeat in Mallorca and, for example, let star striker Kylian Mbappé play from the start. Winger Vini Jr. and former BVB star Jude Bellingham also came on as substitutes.
More difficult opponents than Arsenal?
“This will be a different sport compared to many Bundesliga games,” says Alex Schlüter. “It feels like Real might even be a more difficult opponent than Arsenal FC in the preliminary round,” adds Jens Walbrodt. In the league phase of the Champions League, FC Bayern won 3-1 against Arsenal FC. Real Madrid knocked Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City out of the competition in the round of 16.
Will Harry Kane be fit in time?
The exciting question in advance is whether Harry Kane will be fit in time for the game against Real. Bayern coach Vincent Kompany didn’t give any concrete advice after the game in Freiburg: “Of course we’re better when Harry is there,” said Kompany at the Sportschau microphone. “It might still work, we’ll find out in the coming days.”
The Real Madrid – FC Bayern game can be heard live on Tuesday evening and in the live ticker on Sportschau.de and in the Sportschau app.
Has that Further development Already started at BVB?
Alex Schlüter and Jens Walbrodt also discuss all other games on matchday 28 – for example BVB’s minimalist victory against VfB Stuttgart. And they discuss the question of whether BVB’s further development into a new, separate identity has already begun. And which top international club could be the role model.
